Samuel Adeola Olowomeye
Born 1992 in Okitipupa, Ondo State, Nigeria is a self-taught artist skillful for his surreal hyperrealistic paintings. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Performing Arts and a Master in Public Administration (MPA).
His art is focused on ironies, Yorùbá symbolisms as well as addressing issues surrounding duality of identity caused by heavy Western influence. He sees himself as an observer by using his works to criticize and document the chaos and imbalance in Nigeria’s modern society and the African Continent.
The artist works with charcoal, pastel, oil and acrylic to give his paintings strong physical presence. That presence is enhanced by his skill at creating highly realistic works that are surreal. He has special interest in capturing details.
Samuel’s works have been collected within and outside Nigeria. He has featured in selected exhibitions including YOUNG CONTEMPORARIES, Rele Gallery, Lagos (2018); LETTER FROM BIRMINGHAM JAIL, A virtual exhibition, London (2020) and BACKING THE FUTURE, Lagos Oriental, Lagos, Nigeria (2022).
He currently works from Lagos, Nigeria.
